Dattani enters film for Oscars, hopes to set precedent
Mumbai, Dec 31 : Playwright-filmmaker Mahesh Dattani has entered his second movie "Morning Raga" at the Oscars even though it isnt Indias official nomination and is hoping it will set a precedent.
"Other filmmakers who feel theyre left out would now know theres another way of doing it. One neednt go through the Indian government. The immensity of our move hasnt sunk in. Somehow, Im still in denial," Dattani told in an interview.
He also said his next movie would be much more mainstream than his last two films. Excerpts from the interview:
